“The Dominican community has embraced JetBlue’s value proposition, and thanks to their tremendous support we’re pleased to offer the island’s only nonstop service between New York and La Romana,” said Scott Laurence, vice president of network planning for JetBlue. “We are the country’s largest carrier, and we will continue to grow by adding more options and more destinations for visitors and residents of the Dominican Republic alike.”
“The new JetBlue flights put the beautiful and romantic La Romana area within a few hours of a major U.S. city,” said Magaly Toribio, DR Ministry of Tourism, Vice Minister of International Promotion. “The Dominican Republic’s long-term commitment to innovative marketing has firmly established our culturally rich paradise in the hearts and minds of global travelers who seek sensational sun, azure blue seas and sumptuous and affordable world-class hotels. Our country’s increasing popularity with U.S. visitors allows our airline partners to increase their flights to meet the growing demand for our warm and welcoming island nation.”

The El Coral Highway, which when complete soon will join Santo Domingo, La Romana
and Punta Cana, dramatically reducing travel time and distance between the Dominican Republic’s top tourist destinations is progressing very well and is ni some areas starting to look very impressive!
Construction of the El Coral Highway began in October 2009 by the Brazilian construction company Odebrecht and the project was inaugurated by President Leonel Fernandez, who said that the road would take 3 years to complete and cost an estimated $279 million dollars. Now that that project is almost finished, we can see the great job that has been done!
On a recent trip out of Casa de Campo, we ventured towards Bayahibe and were astounded by the huge progress that has been made! The road is completely unrecognisable! The road between Casa de Campo and the ‘represa’ (where the road crosses the Chavon river), has been much improved – the road surface is smooth and there are even markings and cats-eyes. Also in this area, the beginnings of the 4-lane anti seismic bridge, which will take the highway over the Chavón river can be seen.
Even the stretch of road beyond the Chavón River is much improved and from the current road, you can see sections of the new highway nearing completion, with several bridges nearly completed; one near the La Estancia Golf Resort and the other which will take the highway over the road which leads to Bayhibe and Domincus.
The road going up from the Chavón River is now clearly marked and has 3 lanes.

It’s all rather amazing and very impressive!
For those of you who don’t know the new El Coral Highway will be a 70km toll road La Romana and Punta Cana, connecting the two airports and important tourist destinations; Casa de Campo, Bayahibe, Dominicus, Bavaro, Cap Cana, Macao and Uvero Alto – the areas where more than 60% of the Dominican Republic’s hotels are located.
Below we share a short video about the Coral Highway’s Presentation:
Coral Highway
On Wednesday the 8th of August 2012, the new La Romana – Punta Cana highway, called the “Autopista del Coral” was inaugurated by President of the Dominican Republic, Dr. Leonel Fernández and is now open for traffic travelling between the 2 destinations.
The new highway, which cost over US$400 million to construct has dramatically reduced travel time to and from the La Romana – Casa
de Campo International Airport, which can now be reached from Casa de Campo in 5 minutes, from Bayahibe – Dominicus in 20 minutes and Punta Cana in 35 minutes.
